With the recent changes to Barclay Bank’s Uber Card, many users have voiced their complaints and have found themselves in the market for a new dining credit card. As 2020 nears, GoodMoneyAdvice.com reviews the best dining credit card options currently available on the market.
Wells Fargo Propel
The Wells Fargo Propel American Express Card is an excellent and underrated no annual fee credit card, in which you can earn 3x points on restaurant purchases (dining in or delivery), gas, rideshare/transit, flights, hotels, streaming services, and even car rentals. You will earn 1x points on everything else.
There is no limit on the number of points you can earn, and the points never expire. There also is no blackout dates on air travel when you redeem the points through Wells Fargo’s Go Far Rewards website. If you travel abroad, you won’t have to worry about any foreign currency conversion fees, and the mobile phone protection offered is among the best in the industry.
The Propel offers an introductory 0% APR on both purchases and balance transfers for the first 12 months, and after that your rate will be based off your credit worthiness. There currently is an offer in which if you sign up for the Propel card and spend $3,000 in purchases within the first 3 months, you will receive 30,000 bonus points, which equates to $300 in cash value.
The Propel is quietly the best dining card option on the market that many people don’t pay attention to, however below are a few others to consider.
Capital One Savor One
Since we are focusing on dining cards with no annual fee, we chose to highlight the Capital One Savor One Rewards card instead of the Savor Rewards. The Savor One Rewards credit card offers unlimited 3% cash back on dining and entertainment purchases, 2% at grocery stores, and 1% everywhere else. You will receive an introductory 0% APR for the first 9 billing cycles, and then your rate will be driven off your creditworthiness. O
Much like the Propel, the Savor One offers no foreign transaction fees, but also adds travel accident insurance, and complimentary 24 hour concierge service for your dining or travel needs no matter where you are. If you are a current Uber Card user who loved the fact you were earning cash back, and are bummed it will now convert to Uber credit only, the simplicity of getting the cash back with no annual fee makes the Savor One card worth taking a look at. Currently, Capital One is offering new cardmembers a one-time $150 cash bonus once you spend $500 on purchases within the first 3 months of opening your account.
Chase AARP Credit Card
The Chase AARP Rewards Credit Card is another no annual fee unlimited cash back credit card worth considering if you are looking to dump the Uber card. You will earn 3% cash back at all restaurants and gas stations, and 1% everywhere else. Unlike the Wells Fargo Propel or Capital One Savor One, the AARP Rewards Credit Card does charge 3% on foreign transaction fees, and has no intro 0% APR for purchases or balance transfers. If you are already in the Chase ecosystem, you may want to consider this, however there is a gap between the top two and this option on our ranking.
Marvel Credit Card
Synchrony Bank issues the Marvel MasterCard, which is one of the best kept no annual fee cash back cards on the market. While some people are not fans of Synchrony, the benefits for this card are attractive. You will earn 3% cash back on dining and entertainment purchases, with 1% cash back everywhere else. If you are a fan of Marvel comics, you do receive other perks/benefits specific to the brand, including 10% off merchandise and free shipping from MarvelShop.com. You also can choose from six different marvel card designs, including Spiderman and Captain America.
Much like the Chase AARP card, there is no introductory 0% APR on purchases or balance transfers, and there is a 3% foreign transaction fee on the card.
For our money, if you are looking for the best dining credit card on the market with no annual fee, the Wells Fargo Propel is the clear leader. Capital One offers a very attractive option with the Savor One, and from reports online, may be easier to secure in regards to your FICO score and credit profile.
